I am focusing my talk around Proverbs 31:11-12 which says, "The heart of the husband doth safely trust in her… she will do him good… all the days of her life, and how this ties into the Plan of salvation – When God created man and placed him in the Garden of Eden He could see that it was not good for man to be alone.”
Genesis 2: 18 ¶And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be aalone; I will make him ban help meet for him.
1Cor 11:11 states “neither is the man without the women, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
Dad’s Favorite Story:
I finally got “that girl” off to myself, all alone, after we had rode the train to Pocatello, Idaho, stayed overnight with her sister, Twyla, and husband Gene Swallow; then on to Ucon, Idaho where she met my first kin, sister Ruth, and her husband Fay Sessions; then on to Sugar City, Idaho, where cousin, Jay Roberts, grinned from ear to ear to see me with a new bride and wedding gear, presents galore, embarking from the train – where the conductor was all smiles too.
It was then to see my new widowed mother (Dad died 9/11/1942) in our dear old home, and introduce those two, most dear women in my life, to each other – then on up to the Camas Meadows Ranch to see my brother, Luther, and his wife Enid, and for us to stay, all alone, for the winter; feed the sheep, milk the cows, slop the hogs, wrangle the horses, and then for me, to leave her, entirely all alone, while I skied up in the forest to cut Red Pine Posts, all alone, day after day, skied and rode my horse home to feed the sheep and etc. and be back up in the forest again the next day.
Once when I came home, she was weeping inconsolably. When I awkwardly tried to find out why, she said to me, between sobs, “I think the only reason you married me, instead of one of the other Sister Missionaries, was because you figured I was the only one damn fool enough to come to this Godforsaken country with you.” Boy, she had me. I was tongue-tied. What she said was true. Now what do I do to crawl out of that one?....And the thought came to me “Honey, “ I said, “what you say is true, but I think it is a high compliment, not an insult.”
She has proven herself to me, over and over again. Neither of us ever quite walks alone – we are with each other, and our God, wherever, and whatever we are doing; tho there be short physical separations, if ever she finds fault with me, I say “Yes Honey, but I have such good judgment,” She knows I expect her to ask “You do?” So I can say, “Yes, because I married you.”
Proclamation to the World –
HUSBAND AND WIFE have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. … Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.
So you see that Mom, and mothers in general play a vital part of the great plan.
Proverbs 31:11-12 The heart of the husband doth safely trust in her… she will do him good… all the days of her life. Mom was a partner with dad in every way: she was a business woman, an accountant, involved in politics, filled with integrity, quick to forgive, had a happy nature, loved games and fun and used it to make friends.
Mother Says—
My Mother says she doesn’t care
About the color of my hair
Or if my eyes are blue or brown
Or if my nose turns up or down,
It really doesn’t matter.
My Mother says she doesn’t care
If I’m dark or if I’m fair
If I’m thin or if I’m fat
She doesn’t fret over things like that
It really doesn’t matter.
But if I cheat or tell a lie
Or do mean things that make folks cry;
Or if I’m rude or impolite
And do not try to do what’s right
That’s what really matters.
Proverbs 31:11-12 The heart of the husband doth safely trust in her… she will do him good… all the days of her life. And so it was with her children. We could safely put our trust in her.
One more poem that sums it up, and was included in the home made list of poems and sayings that Mom sent me while I was on a mission.
An Ideal Wife--
Here’s the the girl who saves the cash
And keeps the home and cooks the hash
And tells me all the news each day
And makes me think I have my way,
She’s just as dear as she can be
And gosh, she means the world to me.
I am so grateful for my mother and my wonderful wife of whom it can be said: The heart of the husband doth safely trust in her.
